Efren Peñaflorida – CNN Hero of the Year
Our very own Efren Peñaflorida has been named the 2009 CNN Hero of the Year. The third annual “CNN Heroes: An All Star Tribute” happened at the Kodak Theatre in Hollywood on Saturday night with 3,000 audience.
Efren Peñaflorida was the one who started the “pushcart classroom” here in the Philippine to bring the education to the poor children as an alternative to gang membership.
Efren got more than 2.75 million votes, will receive a $100,000 and will continue his work with the Dynamic Teen Company.
The event features the performances by Grammy Award-winning artist Carrie Underwood, R&B crooner Maxwell and British pop sensation Leona Lewis. Presenters include Nicole Kidman, Kate Hudson, Neil Patrick harris, Pierce Brosnan, Dwayne Johnson, Eva Mendes, Randy Jackson, Greg Kinnear, George Lopez and Julia Louis-Dreyfus.
The gala event premieres on Thanksgiving, November 26 at 9 p.m. Et/PT on the global networks of CNN
